http://www.flickr.com

  • Cat au in plan sa cheltuie romanii in urmatoarea jumatate de an?

ESQUIRE:The High-Low Theory of Fashion Affordability

Some items in your wardrobe are always worth spending the extra money on. Some items in your wardrobe can usually be had at a bargain. Some items can go either way. Above, from our March issue fashion extravaganza, a breakdown of how you should sort your price priorities. One important note: Unless you're dressing up for a Very Important Meeting or dressing down for a day of fishing, your outfit at any given time should contain at least one high item and one low item. It helps throw things off center just a bit.

ESQUIRE:A Good Way to Spend $100: Handmade (Wooden) Shades

If the Memorial Day barbecues were any indication, the American man has learned his Wayfarer lesson. Welcome to Summer. Now, let's choose some shades that all your friends don't own already. We could suggest a great new pair from Ermenegildo Zegna, say, or Oliver Peoples, or any number of European brands that are updating the classics this season.
But let's stay closer to home for a second because small, new companies like ShwoodCapital, and Proof are taking those same timeless shapes and rendering them in a new material: wood. American trees, in fact, which are hand-carved in small batches to produce quality pairs (we're talking Zeiss lenses, in Capital's case) that are as affordable as they are one-of-a-kind; technically, no two pieces of tree are the same. For all three brands, prices top out near $150, which is a modest sum for an eccentric addition to your sunglass artillery. And, as an added weekend bonus, we're pretty sure they float (in pools, in punch bowls, in lakes — the ocean's at your own risk).

ESQUIRE:(New) Persols: Right for The Longest Day of 2011

The brand Persol reminds us of Steve McQueen and classic 714s with the blue lenses, which were re-released late last year. But this summer, our mind is wandering to a new, limited-edition style (which was announced during the last Milan shows) and is just now landing on shelves. The Roadster, as it's called, was inspired by an automobile-inspired pair of sunglasses that Giuseppe Ratti first created in 1917, some 20 years before he launched his now famous company: Persol.
Though it's available in two models, the Roadster GT (above) in a glossy black with grey lenses is the sleekest option, updating — or, actually, backdating — the 649s and 714s by removing the keyhole at the bridge, adding metal detailing that's supposed to suggest vintage car grills, and incorporating slightly rounder lenses. All sunglass speak, roughly, for "badass."
And, as coincidence has it, great for The Summer Solstice. Originally intended for driving, the Roadsters also have special photochromatic lenses: If you head out and buy a pair now, the lenses will constantly adjust until the sun falls tonight (whenever that may be). Unfortunately, still no excuse for wearing them at night.

ESQUIRE:Ten Ceramic Watches You Should Consider Next

From bezels to entire cases, to matching bracelets, it's hard to find a watch company that's not into ceramic these days. And we're not talking pottery. This version of the magic clay is high-tech, strong, and nearly worthy of ballistics.
What does all that mean for your next watch? Compared to steel, this non-metallic solid is lighter, more scratch-resistant, and stronger. The list continuous: It's impervious to chemicals. It resists friction, abrasion, and high temperatures. In short, it's better, even if there's one thing it's not: cheaper. Still, as you browse our 10 picks for the best ceramic timepieces below — all offered in a brilliant matte black — remember that you're investing in the future. Even if these watches happen to outlast you.
