Authenticity Either Is Or Isn't.

Authenticity either is or isn't.

When a brand pretends to be something it is not, the result generally backfires. Like this beautiful Chrysler “Style” commercialthat demonstrates that yes, Chrysler was synonymous with American style. The key word being WAS. Lesson: Even great advertising does not make uncool, cool.

Which leads us to think of bygone eras and authentic brands that are no more. Such as Benrus watches. Somehow the move to digital watches and colorful plastic timepieces took the seriousness out of watches. Is this good or bad? You decide for yourself but we are currently enamored with the 1940 Benrus Sky Chief. Real numbers, real hands, serious black or silver face, a real crown to wind it. Benrus Watch co. was founded in New York City in the 1920s by Benjamin Lazarus. Benrus was the official watch of the U.S. mail-carrying pilots of several cargo airlines. Known at its peak as the “Official Watch of Famous Airlines,” it was the official time piece of pilots at Delta, KLM, NWA and TWA. You can still find some of the authentic Sky Chiefs, and by forking out $2,400 or so, you may even be able to own one. - Bill Tikos

Onscreen Style: Gossip Girl's Best Fashion Moments

The show may be over for the year, but we're still obsessing about Gossip Girl. Ever since its launch in 2007, Gossip Girl has been a fashion feast of style inspiration for a multitude of fans around the world. Placing the same importance on its characters' wardrobe that Sex and the City had before it, clothes that appear on Gossip Girl are often sold out before the show even airs. From Blair's penchant for headbands to Serena's constantly stunning evening dresses, the world has fallen in love with Gossip Girl and its spectaular fashion. Below is our tribute to some of this year's best fashion moments.
Serena Van Der WoodsenBlair Waldorf in J. Crew

Serena (Blake Lively) looked incredible in this dress and debuted the lace-bottomed skirt to perfection. We loved the muted dove grey color with matching shoes. Of course, Serena looks phenomenal in everything.

Blair (Leighton Meester) lost the headband in honor of her birthday party and wore a stunning J. Crew dress with grosgrain belt. Her elegant sideswept hairstyle and dark burgundy jewels were exceptionally flattering.

Serena Van de Woodsen in Diane Von FurstenburgBlar Waldorf
Serena loves a standout dress and this Diane Von Furstenberg doesn't disappoint. The print, cut-outs, and maxi length look stunning on her!

This look is classic Blair: a mix of stunning prints and matching handbag. Always put together and with a perfectly paired color palette, Blair's look is ultra feminine and very lustworthy.
Serena and Blair in Paris
Could there be anything prettier than Serena and Blair in Paris? Blair's fantastic prints and classic Parisian beret and Serena's choice of brogues (a first for the character) were a fitting choice for the City of Love, and made us want every piece of clothing!

Serena Van De Woodsen Blue PantsChuck Bass
These electric blue pants, pairing sensationally with Serena's metallic blazer, sparked a neon pant trend. Serena's flair for unusual, bright clothing and trends inspire fashionistas everywhere.

We couldn't leave out Gossip Girl's most dapper gentlemen: Mr. Chuck Bass (Ed Westwick) always looks incredibly stylish. From his bow ties and waistcoats to his dark ways, we love the way he dresses and commands onscreen attention.

Blair Waldorf and Chuck BassSerena Van De Woodsen

Blair and Chuck are our favorite couple, and here they are both at their sartorial best. Blair's pastel blouse matches Chuck's salmon pink bowtie perfectly, as do their naughty personalities!

We love Serena for many reasons, but her infectious smile, beautiful figure, and gorgeous mane of hair make her look fantastic in any outfit.

GQ:Sneaker of the Week: Barker Black Hi Top

barber-hi-top-490.jpg
Barker Black has been crafting some of the sharpest, (and best-constructed), dress shoes around since the 1880s. These days, they're best known for their perfect kick of attitude. For instance, creative director Derrick Miller is known for crafting his signature brogues with skulls and crossbones on the toes. Lately he's tried his hand at sneakers like these orange hi-tops that have the same feel. They're a little rock 'n roll and made to last, like all things Barker Black. Pick them up at their NYC and LA locations or give them a call. The folks who work there are more than happy to ship them to your door.
