About Last GQ:Night: Versace and H+M Spare No Expense at Collaboration Launch Party

Let it never be said that Versace and H+M cannot put their collective resources together to throw a serious party. In fact, their throwdown last night to celebrate their much-anticipated collaboration was worth at least a mention against (and possibly detracted from the guest list of) the night's other massive show—a certain Mr. West and Mr. Carter at MSG. The room was packed to the gills with starpower: Jessica Alba, Uma Thurman, every damn model and fashion photographer you've ever heard of, Nicki Minaj, Prince—the last two tore up the stage post-show. But first to the clothing: crazy patterns, bold colors, glittery goodness, excess in all forms—everything you'd expect from Donatella and Co. After the runway, the afterparty quickly commenced in the adjacent room—Minaj took the stage, leading a "Go Donatella" chant before admitting "Y'all are gonna have to fight me for those clothes afterwards, I'm chargin' everything..." referring to the pop-up shop that opened immediately following the show.

The man of the night, however, hit the stage next, and hit it he did. Prince reminded us why he's one of the last great entertainers in this business—turning back the clock as he always does—dashing around the stage, playing every instrument in sight, and directing crowd traffic while reveling in his domination. After several songs (including his band's rendition of Michael Jackson's "Don't Stop 'til You Get Enough"), he came out for an encore of "Purple Rain" that kept everyone on their feet, before bowing out, and urging everyone, as Minaj had, to pay homage to Versace. And pay it they did, with their credit cards, as the fresh product flew off the racks. Mark Ronson cruised by in an all-pink suit, Thurman scampered out shoeless after cutting a rug, we scored the last beer in the entire place, and tipped it back, taking in the scene. It was impressive, it was a party. It was Versace.
